We are in the activity 'Exploring Castles', and we are going to add an action to our page to open an external file, a history assessment we have downloaded from Easilearn.
To create a link button go to 'Drawing tools', select the rectangle from shape tools. Now open text tools and add some text, and group the two objects together.
We can now right-click on our new object to see the accelerator menu, where we select Actions, Open an external file and click OK. We now browse to our assessment file. (Note that the file must be stored with the original file and that if the path changes, the link won’t work.)
If we now go into Play mode and click on the new button, we see that it opens the assessment in a new instance of Easiteach.
Returning to our activity, we can also add a link to a related website. We do this by selecting the text tool and adding some text. We can select the word or phrase we want to link from and from the Advanced text tools menu select Insert hyperlink.
A pop-up appears showing the text to display and we type the web address underneath and click OK. The text has changed to a link and when we change to Play mode, clicking on this link opens the site in a new window.
We will now save our activity with its added information for use in the classroom.
